The Transport for NSW project was carried out by the Gunnedah Shire Council after the intersection was identified in the Oxley Highway corridor strategy as needing an upgrade.
The intersection is the entry and exit point for trucks travelling on the town's heavy vehicle route.
As part of the project, the end of the Conadilly Street cul de sac was opened up and connected with the end of Bloomfield Street just before traffic feeds into the roundabout.
The project was originally expected to be carried out last year but was set back by land acquisition issues, supply delays due to COVID-19, and wet weather.
Bloomfield Street was upgraded a number of months ago by the council through the state government's Fixing Country Roads program . It was part of a $4 million project to seal and strengthen the pavement over two years.
Work on Gunnedah's second rail-over-road bridge is continuing and an update is expected in the coming weeks.
