Gunnedah overpass project still on track for early 2021 completion

Six of the seven sections of the bridge deck have now been poured, according to a Transport for NSW spokesperson.

As this stage there isn't any word on when locals will be called on for name ideas for the new bridge.

Many locals took to the NVI's Facebook comments when Transport for NSW first announced name ideas would be taken into consideration.

Lots of people agreed a tribute to the late Nancy Small would be fitting "in recognition of all her hard [work] looking after wildlife in the local area".

Other ideas included 'Bridgey McBridge', 'Barry', and even 'The Opera House'.

Daracon staff are also continuing to work on the Oxley Highway roundabout off View Street.

View Street has been reopened to traffic, with workers continuing to concrete traffic islands and kerbs, landscape, and asphalt the road surface of the approach roads.

Traffic control remains in place while work continues to finish the remainder of the roundabout.

The $61 million project is on track to be completed in March 2021, weather permitting.

Motorists travelling over the bridge will also be able to view the Gunnedah Maize Mill, which will soon sport a large mural of Dorothea Mackellar.

This $70,500 project is funded by the federal government's Drought Communities Program and it is anticipated work will start in spring.
