A Sydney press conference will outline the decision, as Tamworth Regional Council prepare to vote on Tuesday to give $20,000 to the fixture.
"The National Rugby League has now approved for a game between the New Zealand Warriors and the Newcastle Knights to be played in Tamworth as part of its revised competition," the motion reads.

NRL officials were in town last week and the official details of the big game will be announced at midday today in Sydney.
NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has called a press conference along with Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson, Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee, NSW NRL regional taskforce chair Dugald Saunders, NRL boss Peter V'landys and NRL acting CEO Andrew Abdo.
The press conference comes after NRL officials toured the Wests League Club and Scully Park last week.
ACM understands the announcement will outline the details of the big game, which looks set for August 29.
The Warriors have a strong connection with the region, after only being allowed to play in the NRL competition after quarantining in Tamworth for more than two weeks earlier this year.
Playing a home game here was a commitment made by the team to recognise the city's assistance.
