ACM can reveal a house party in Green Street on Friday night is key to finding out what happened in the moments before the man was stabbed to death.
The local man died in Tamworth hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was rushed there after he was found with stab wounds inside a Green Street home in Coledale just before 1am.
Detectives are remaining tight-lipped on the details of the man's injuries as well as much of the police probe.
"We're keeping an open mind in the investigation on what occurred inside the premises on Friday night," Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy told ACM.

Police have confirmed it's not a random attack or the result of a break-in. But they need to speak to more than 20 witnesses to find out what they saw and heard, as they build their case into what unfolded in the minutes before the man suffered critical stab wounds.
"When police arrived on scene they found a man with critical injuries and he was taken to Tamworth hospital where he died a short time later," Detective Darcy said.
"Detectives have identified in excess of 20 people who we need to speak too and we're waiting to talk to them to progress the investigation.
"We need those people to come forward and provide us with their version of events so that we can find out exactly what happened, dispel some of the rumous and finalise certain lines of inquiry."
One woman - a 26-year-old who is believed to be related - was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning and taken in for questioning. She has since been released.
No charges have been laid, but the party in Green Street is key to the investigation.
"We believe there was a party in Green Street and we want to talk to everyone at that party, as well as anyone that came and went from the Green Street area," Detective Darcy said.
Uniformed officers spent a second day on Sunday guarding the front of the house, as the forensic police and detectives came and went from the scene, collecting bags of evidence and questioning witnesses.
Strike Force Mindoro - setup by Oxley detectives - has seen a team of police deployed, including officers from the neighbouring New England district. More investigators from across the Western Region are en route to bolster the police probe.
We would make a public appeal for anyone that was in the Green Street area on Friday night, especially those with dashcam or CCTV footage.

"We're developing a timeline on his movements and we have identified much of where he has been on that day.
"Detectives have been out there canvassing yesterday and today, and we've identified a number of witnesses and continuing to take their statements."
