The Show Society is calling on residents from around the region to jump in and support the cause, which is looking to recover from its first ever cancellation, due to COVID-19 restrictions, last year.

With rules around social distancing and indoor capacity still in place, more people are needed to help manage the show this year.

While the experienced volunteers will handle most of the COVID-19 regulations, others are being invited to help run pavilions, direct show-goers to their desired events, assist in the canteen or bar or provide a hand in the arena with a range of different tasks.

Gunnedah Show Society publicity officer, George Truman, would love to welcome some younger volunteers onboard, but will be happy to accept anyone who puts their hand up.

While the event lasts for three days, he was keen to make it clear people do not have to stay for the whole time.

"It would be great to get some more people who are happy to just give a couple of hours, it doesn't have to be all day here," he said.

"Just a couple of hours to take the pressure off some of the members who are also involved with the setting up... just to even the load out."

Anyone who has previously interested in joining the society to see what the show is all about is strongly encouraged to donate some time.

Mr Truman has been involved with the show for more than 20 years, and said the experience is extremely rewarding - perhaps now more than ever.

"It's very rewarding, especially when we live in the country and agriculture is really our base," he said.

"Just providing an opportunity for people to come together to show their animals which is a big area, with the horses and the cattle and the sheep and then the produce.

"It's just that opportunity because there's a lot of people, especially during the COVID times with working from home and becoming isolated, who were at home doing their handicrafts and painting and stuff like that, and this is an opportunity to showcase that."

With an event, stall or show to appeal to everybody's interest, Mr Truman believes there's a role for everybody.
