Now, the selling centre is ready for an exciting new phase with an overhaul of the complex reaching several crucial stages.
Designs are now being drawn up for a new truck wash facility and restaurant and administration building.
Gunnedah's saleyards are one of the major livestock selling hubs in the state, and the $17.55 million overhaul of the complex is set to generate significant economic stimulus to region, both during the construction phase and after.
Gunnedah Shire Council said it is currently finalising development applications, awarding of tenders and contracts for commencement of work following DA approval.
"Site survey work has been completed, with the associated reports informing design contracts and DA preparation," a spokesperson said.

Solar panels are set to help power the site, with details regarding the size, structure and placement to be finalised following consultation with electrical and energy engineering representatives.
Construction is set to commence soon after the DA is approved, with design and tenders awarded to ensure the project construction stages are ready to commence after approval, council said.
