Gunnedah’s high schools have been proactive about drought relief.
On Tuesday, Year 11 students Ashleigh Mills and Lucy Moore visited the Gunnedah office of Aussie Helpers to hand over a cheque of $1150.
Ashleigh and Lucy were the main drivers behind the drought fundraiser and Aussie Helpers’ Gunnedah regional coordinator David Moon commended their initiative.
“It’s good that you’re thinking about [the drought],” Mr Moon told them.
“Everything you do is terrific and you should be proud.”
Mr Moon said the funds could be used to buy vouchers to distribute to those in need.
“Everything like this is really helpful when it’s going to the farmers,” he said.
“It’s just so hard for some of those people.”
On Friday, Year 12 student from St Mary’s College headed over to the Gunnedah site on Friday to help put together care packs, while Year 10 raised money for the St Vincent De Paul Drought Relief Appeal by holding a "Wear an Aussie Hat" day and a sausage sizzle.
