At Goodstart Early Learning Centre, kids dressed as farmers and parents gave a donation towards A Fiver for a Farmer. The organisation gives to Rural Aid Australia and Drought Angels.
In Carroll, the public school and Ooranga pre-school came together to raise funds for Aussie Helpers.
In two hours, almost $1400 was raised, with staff and kids dressing as farmers and a hay auction. Ten bales of hay were auctioned off by staff member Jamie Brown, with one bale going for $100. Half of the bales were donated by James Hyme, a local man.
“They went for collectively $500,” Carroll Public School principal Beck Dowe said.
“There was a bit of a bidding bonanza going, which was good.
“One of the kids actually spent his birthday money on buying a bale of hay so I think it just shows that our kids are caring and compassionate about what’s going on around them.”
Mrs Dowe said the school was thankful to all the businesses who donated food and items for the fundraiser.
“We wouldn't have been able to do it without them for sure,” she said.
