Mrs Mitchell has handled the education and early childhood learning portfolio since 2019 and said it is "a good fit" for her as a mother of two.

"I'm delighted and very excited to stay in the education portfolio. I'm very passionate about my role and think it's a very important ministry, particularly for regional NSW," she said.

The MP will be sworn in at Parliament House in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon, alongside Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson who is the new Minister for Lands and Water, and hospitality and racing.

At a media event on Monday, Mr Anderson said Mrs Mitchell was "an outstanding minister".

"I think Sarah Mitchell has done an outstanding job and that's why she's been reappointed as the education minister, and we've been grateful for the work she's done ... she's been rewarded for that role," he said.

Mrs Mitchell said it had been a "disruptive" year in education, so the focus in 2022 was to "get back to normal as much as possible".

The minister said "a lot of work" had been going on "behind the scenes" to prepare for key initiatives, including a tuition program to help students catch up, the School Success Model, and senior secondary pathways.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to stay in the role - there are things we need to keep momentum going," she said.

Mrs Mitchell said without her family's support, she would not be able to advocate for regional NSW, and encouraged other women to step forward for government roles.

"I'm always really proud of how I can be a role model to other women," she said.

"I think for a lot of women it's having the confidence, and I encourage them to put their hand up if they're passionate about their community, whether it's local, state or federal ... for regional women, it is possible and you can make it work."
