After been selected as the Gunnedah shire's creative champion by Arts North West (ANW), she will now assist in the creation a regional registry of creative people, industries and venues in the New England North West, so their work can be more easily accessed and promoted.

As a creative champion, Ms Low will be required to identify at least 20 artists within the Gunnedah shire that are not already represented on Arts North West Connect.

Having significant experience in the industry as a print and photo-journalist, as well as a painter in a career that has lasted more than 30 years, Ms Low said she would have no issues finding enough creative talent.

"I don't think there'll be any problem at all finding a lot more than 20 artists and creative people in our region," she said.

"There are heaps of talented people across our shire and beyond and it's really exciting to be building a database to connect everybody."

The creative champions program is looking to bring together people from the Armidale, Glen Innes Severn, Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Moree, Narrabri, Tamworth Regional, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha shires.

Ms Low said the importance of the project could not be understated, especially given how difficult life can often be as an artist.

"I think it will be really important in supporting art and building a creative network because artists tend to feel like they work in a silo a lot of the time, in that they work on their own and it's hard to connect with other people who are creative," she stated.

"So this is an excellent way of building up that database of the huge range and variety of talent we have in this area and making that information available to people more widely."

Another Gunnedah local, Alex Wharton, has been selected as part of the 'in the museum artist' residency program, and has been linked with the Dorothea Mackellar Centre and the Water Tower Museum.
