WE are well past the days where coding and robotics were only for computer specialists or super-villains in Hollywood movies, with the skills becoming widely used and the chance to learn them being readily available.

In fact, in the upcoming school holidays children from Gunnedah will have an opportunity to try out a wide range of courses at the Junior Engineers (JE) workshop.
Partnering with the Gunnedah Shire Council and Namoi Valley Bricks, JE will be running a program over the 13th and 14th of April at the Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery.
Food will be provided across the two days while kids will also get to keep the robotic creations they make at the end of the course.
Among the in person or live online lessons they will be teaching are Minecraft and ROBLOX coding, cutting edge Arduino robotics, app prototyping, digital entrepreneurship, game development, Python, Javascript and Scratch.
For those interested in eventually becoming part of an industry that would require any of those skills, it is a great chance to make an early start and learn from professionals; and for those who just think it sounds interesting, it is certainly worthwhile going to and may even spark a newfound interest in technology.

One of JE's major focuses is increasing the amount of girls who enter STEM careers and take part in these type of classes.
That focus is intensified for regional areas, with the company supporting over 3000 girls to learn code through the Women in STEM grant they received last year.
The program costs $255, but $100 of that can be covered by a Creative Kids voucher.
