A man has died in a head on crash north of Narrabri.
Emergency services were called to the scene - about 10 kilometres north of Narrabri on the Newell Highway about 1.30am - after reports a 4WD had collided with a refrigerated truck.
The male driver of the 4WD died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 46-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Narrabri Base Hospital with suspected arm and chest injuries.
Officers from Oxley Police District established a crime scene, which is still being examined.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.
As inquiries continue, police are appealing to any witnesses to the crash or anyone who might have dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Motorists are being advised to delay travel along the Newel Highway, after a serious crash around 10 kilometres north of Narrabri.
The highway remains closed in both directions. Emergency services and traffic crews are at the scene.
Northbound and southbound traffic is diverting via Kamilaroi Highway, Merrywinebone Road (Burren Junction-Collarenebri Road) and Gwydir Highway in each direction.
This diversion will add around three hours extra travel time.
Motorists are advised to follow directions of traffic crews, delay trips or allow plenty of extra travel time if travelling via the diversion route.
Due to the serious nature of the crash there is no forecast of when the highway will reopen.
