Once a flowing mane of red-gold locks, the 11-year-old sports captain of Spring Ridge Public School is now rocking a shorn head with a number two, but reckons the reason behind it is, almost, worth it.
"I loved my mullet - I loved being a mad lad," Tom laughed.
"I put my vest on and went to take my hair out and it wasn't there!"
The lad has raised almost seven times his goal, and almost double the target set on his Go Fundraise page for the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) Limited, which aims to raise funds for brain cancer research.

With $1250 raised on his page, his money, and the collections from the Spring Ridge Pub on Saturday night, he's almost hit $2000.
Tom's been growing the mullet for almost four "great years" and took on the Mulletfest last year.
While he said it was "time to say goodbye", he has vowed the locks will return, with the grow out process starting "now".
