With work on the $340,000 upgrade of Gunnedah FC's clubhouse set to begin early next year, Gunnedah and District Soccer Association president Welington Sardinha has saluted Morgan for mortgaging his own home in order to obtain a loan that was used to buy the land the club sits on.
"That's why today we honour him and call it Geoff Morgan Fields, because he was passionate enough to do that," Sardinha said.

The association last week called for builder quotes for the project - made possible by the state government's Stronger Communities Fund.
The upgrade will feature an accessible car park, an entry ramp, two changing rooms with a toilet and shower, a changing area for female players, a changing area and shower for match officials, storage space and a general-purpose function room.
Sardinha said the project was "very exciting" and the clubhouse would look "really, really good when it's all complete".
"I think, without a doubt, since the exception of the club [in 2016] that this is the most exciting project that we've had," he said.
Sardinha said Gunnedah FC was in "such a privileged position", given that their fields are privately owned and had "very good drainage systems" and "amazing irrigation systems".
"There were a coupe situations the last two years where councils deemed fields to be unplayable [due to rain], but we had the opportunity to play," he said.
Sardinha said the "dream" was to have the upgrade completed next year.
