Gunnedah has seen a drop in the number of many reported offences, but there has been more domestic violence, according to the latest Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) figures.

The statistics, released on Wednesday, show the number of reported crimes over the 12 months to September 2020, as well as the numbers from the year to September 2019.
The data shows that break-ins to homes almost halved from 108 in 2018/2019 down to 56 in the past year.

Thefts from cars also had a significant drop, with the figures showing 46 in the past year compared to 111 the year before.
There was also a significant drop in break-ins to non-dwellings in the Gunnedah shire, decreasing from 30 incidents in the 12 months to September 2019 to just six in the past 12 months.
However, domestic violence related assaults was significantly higher, rising from 68 reported incidents in the 12 months to September 2019 to 93 in the 12 months to September 2020.
Sexual assault cases also increased in the last year, moving up to 28 incidents from 15.
Meanwhile in Tamworth, indecent assault, act of indecency and other sexual offences were all much lower in the past year. There were 86 reported incidents in 2020, compared to 107 in 2019.
Malicious damage to property also dropped from 780 incidents in 2019 to 688 in 2020.
The number of murders in the Tamworth local government area increased, though, from zero in the 12 months to September 2019, to three in the 12 months to September 2020.
Domestic violence related assaults only raised slightly, from 415 in 2018/2019 to 418 in the past year.
