Quirindi High School (QHS) students Indiah Nean and Hayley Morris were elated to take out the honour, as well as $5000 scholarships each to help them achieve their future ambitions.
Farming for Kids promotes the importance of farming to the community and the national economy, and supports and partners with other community organisations.
The scholarship program has been running at QHS for four years.
QHS's Sally Alden coordinates the scholarships and said the intensive interview process saw an outstanding calibre of students enter.
"The application process for the scholarships is extensive for the students, who gain a whole raft of skills through the process," she said.
"The scholarship money is awarded over five years and every year awardees present their proposal for the spend and it has to run past the committee for approval to meet the guidelines."
Although Indiah and Hayley have a bit of time left to research options before presenting to the committee next year, they already have their future goals in mind.
Indiah is aiming to be a doctor, or go into medicine and Hayley is aiming for a doctorate of Animal Medicine.
Both recipients aim to return to the area after their study and some time working in their chosen field.
Their future paths also represent the specific scholarships they received, with Indiah taking home the Farming for Kids - Quirindi High School 'Dream Believe Achieve' scholarship and Hayley the 'Agriculture into the Future' scholarship.
The former focuses on achieving educational and future career goals while the later is designed to support students gain the skills necessary to become active members of the agricultural community.
The money is funded by local volunteer farmers growing, harvesting and selling crops from land they lease at the Quirindi Airport.
