The system, called VendorPanel, will enable staff from Gunnedah Shire Council, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, Walcha Council, Tamworth Regional Council, and Gwydir Shire Council to find and select registered local and regional businesses.

VendorPanel Marketplace uses geolocation data to refine a search for suppliers from within 5km to 250km of a postcode. Existing suppliers to councils in the region will receive an email to login to the system and register to attend the information sessions planned for the end of July.

Namoi Unlimited chairperson Jamie Chaffey said the tool would provide councils with the "mechanism to truly support local and regional purchasing and procurement".

"Council businesses are diverse, they have a range of needs from advertising to water services," Cr Chaffey said.

"If your business is seeking to grow, working with local government can be a way to expand."

Cr Chaffey said if businesses registered on the VendorPlace Marketplace, they would also be visible to any company that uses VendorPanel nationally.

"We want to see as many suppliers as possible register. It is free to register, and open to any registered business," he said.

This platform will enable councils to also communicate upcoming opportunities to suppliers in the market.

Cr Chaffey said he expected that that the Commonwealth Government and the NSW Government would continue to release funding and stimulus packages that specifically direct council to expend grant funds through local and regional businesses.
