It's yet another blow to business success in town, after COVID-19 travel restrictions had visitors cancelling their stays in local motels and hotels.

Gunnedah's RV Park and Camping Ground caretaker Barbara Honess said the cancellation of Gunnedah's biggest event threw them into further uncertainty.

"[The cancellation] will have a big impact on Gunnedah because it brought a lot of money into the town. It will make a difference to everything," she said.

Australian Community Media's Rural Events announced on Tuesday that the event wouldn't go ahead in November due to pandemic restrictions.

Mrs Honess said the park has had a stream of visitors recently, but this could change now that AgQuip had been canned.

"We've had a steady flow of people which is quite good but what's down the track, who knows," she said.

Billabong Motel co-owner Greg Wilks said it was "going to be hard" for local businesses.

"We've got to take it as it comes, like now with the virus. We're all struggling," Mr Wilks said.

"It's not good."

The loss of bookings for AgQuip hits harder with a lack of other tourists and visitors. Mr Wilks said things had changed since COVID-19 travel restrictions eased on June 1, but it was still very "spasmodic".

"Normally this time of year we'd have Victorians coming through ... but we haven't got that now," he said.

"It's going to get harder if people in Sydney and Victoria don't do the right thing. I think the country towns are going to suffer."

ACM, the publisher of NVI, says AgQuip will return to its usual dates in 2021.
