Liverpool Plains Shire Council is making the move because the town's bore is still offline after it was contaminated by flood water from heavy rain on the Australia Day weekend. A precautionary boil alert was issued following the incident.

Water is still being carted from Quirindi to supplement a limited supply available from Wallabadah's alternate water source at the WPS 1 well.
Testing of the town's main bore is continuing and it will not be brought back online until the council is certain it is no longer contaminated.
Level 5 measures mean no-outdoor town water usage at all, except for safety or regulatory purposes and pools cannot be filled or topped up from the town water supply.
The target water usage is 150L per person per day, and residents are asked to watch their household water usage and maintain usage below this target.
This level allows the use of sprinklers and other fixed surface watering systems from 6pm-8am daylight saving time. Handheld hoses and buckets and watering cans can be used anytime except during the heat of the day.
