A thunderstorm that rolled through the Gunnedah shire on Tuesday has been likened to "a mini cyclone".

Rainfall was from one extreme to another - 1mm at Breeza Station through to more than 80mm on Norman Road between Carroll and Breeza.
Between the two towns, on the property "Lalagooli", Shelley Johnston said 40mm fell in about 40 minutes between 5pm and 6pm.
"It came from one direction and turned around and went back. It was almost like a mini cyclone," she said.
"We haven't had this much rain for a long time."
The farmer said she had been keeping an eye on the rain radar and hadn't expected any to fall on the property but could see the storm over the hills.
"My partner was like, 'That won't reach us', because rain doesn't normally come that way," Ms Johnston said.

Ms Johnston and her partner have cropping and cattle and she said the rain mostly fell on the cropping paddocks.
"Where rain landed, it's mostly cropping," she said.
The Middlebrooks in Piallaway recorded 17.5mm but next door between the Middlebrooks and Ms Johnston, a property only received 2mm.
In Werris Creek, there was plenty of thunder and lightning and hard and fast rain in evening. About 5mm was recorded.
Mary's Mount towards Mullaley received almost between 30 and 50mm but in Carroll and Curlewis about 2mm was recorded. Gunnedah only had enough rain to wet the ground.
At Bective, near Somerton, a driver on the Oxley Highway captured what looked like a cyclone ahead.
The Bureau of Meterology's forecast for Gunnedah on Wednesday is hot and hazy with 40 per cent chance of showers and possible storms in the afternoon and evening.
