A MAN has fronted court for the first time on charges connected to a crash that killed a man near Narrabri.

Benjamin William Wilson was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he took the wheel of a Honda all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in Wee Waa on October 28, last year.
The 37-year-old was with two passengers, aged 27 and and 25, in the ATV when it left the roadway on Yarrie Lake Road and crashed.
The 27-year-old man died at the scene. Both Wilson and the passenger were taken to hospital with various injuries and later released.

The Crash Investigation Unit charged Wilson in February with seven offences including dangerous driving occasioning death as well as grievous bodily harm (GBH) by driving under the influence; negligent driving occasioning death and GBH; mid-range drink driving; using an unregistered but registrable motor vehicle on the road; and handling or using a firearm under the influence of alcohol or drug.
Wilson appeared in Narrabri Local Court but was not required to enter pleas to the charges.
Magistrate George Breton ordered police to compile a brief of evidence into the charges and serve it on the defence before the case returns to court in June.
Wilson remains on bail.
