Competition co-convenor Carolyn Bishop is hopeful for entry numbers this year after nine local women entered in 2018.
"It was very competitive with fantastic participants," she said.
"The wonderful girls enabled us to build the profile of the event in what I think was a very positive way."
As part of the competition, the entrants undergo an interview with a panel of judges, attend the show’s art and photography exhibition opening night and get involved in the festivities from April 26-28.
The entrants will be judged on their general knowledge, character, speaking ability and knowledge of rural issues.
Last year's senior showgirl winner Haylee Murrell said the competition was an "opportunity that shouldn't be missed".
"I've had more of a presence in the community, and it's been amazing to present some of my views on youth in agriculture and young women having a presence in the agriculture community," Miss Murrell said.
"[The competition] has improved my public speaking and interview skills, and it's become second nature to talk about global or local issues."
"It is a really worthwhile experience - all girls should have a go, whether it's in the junior or senior categories."
Applications for the 2019 showgirl competition close on April 22. For an entry form, visit www.gunnedahshowsociety.com.au/show-info/shedules-entry-forms
