Work has continued on the gardens with help from members of the Altitude Training Solutions/Jobs Australia Gunnedah.
Under the supervision of Belinda Milgate, the group has created a brick border around the four gardens, which were established by Gunnedah Urban Landcare Group (GULG).
The two pallets of bricks were donated by Namoi Valley Bricks, a “very generous gesture”, according to GULG member Owen Hasler. GULG funded the sand and cement, and the hire cost of the cement mixer.
The workers dug a trench around each of the gardens and then stood bricks on their ends before concreting them in place to create a border.
“It’s a much neater barrier to allow mowing and whipper snipping and will stop weeds entering the gardens,” Mr Hasler said.
“We really appreciated their efforts.”
The gardens have also been mulched with materials from the waste management unit.
The completion of the ongoing project was celebrated with a barbecue on Pensioners Hill provided by GULG.
