Lane Cove Council also discussed financial support and in October resolved to donate $5000 to be distributed by Gunnedah Rotary clubs.
Lane Cove mayor Pam Palmer said she was glad the council had passed the motion to aid its sister city.
“We’re just happy to use this as a way of reinforcing our sister city relationship and we’ll always be there for Gunnedah,” she said.
“I met with the mayor [Jamie Chaffey] recently at the Local Government annual conference and we had a good talk about the drought and the effects that it’s having in drought and he reiterated that it’s going to be a long haul for the businesses, so anything we can do to help would be appreciated,” Cr Palmer said.

Cr Palmer said the Gold for Gunnedah campaign was an “amazing effort” by the suburb’s residents.
“I know other councils around Sydney have raised money for drought generally but it’s been great to have that sister city relationship to focus on city-to-city,” she said.
“It’s resonated with Lane Cove people and for us it’s more purposeful to know who the money is going to and we also feel confident that we’re making a difference.”
In the Cove founder Jacky Barker said a final figure was yet to be confirmed for Gold for Gunnedah because some of the 50 odd collection boxes were still out in the community.
“We’re thrilled that people wanted to keep the boxes longer and encourage their customers to put donations in,” Ms Barker said.
“People have been fabulous,” she said.
“We’ve had support from everything from kindergartens, schools, churches, all the sporting clubs, and businesses, so we’ve had every aspect of life.”
In The Cove also sold had tea towels printed with the words ‘London Paris New York Milan Gunnedah’, and sold them at the recent Rotary Club fair. The tea towels will be sent to Gunnedah farmers.
