Locals had a social afternoon on the weekend at two drought events.
Real Life Church Maitland and Northwest Church teamed up to host a fun day for drought-stricken families at Carinya on Saturday, while TurningPoint Church Gunnedah and the CWA partnered to hold a fundraising afternoon tea.
Real Life Church’s Gary Ernst said his team of volunteers thought it was great to “hang out at the country for the weekend”.
“Everyone who came said they had a great time. They all said, ‘This is awesome’,” he said.
“Whether I got 30 people or 300 people, it was all about giving the families a chance to let their hair down and have a good time, so I’m happy.”
Over at TurningPoint, co-organiser Bec Akinyemi said they had a “lovely, relaxed afternoon” and raised $451 for the local community.
“It was more than we were expecting so we were really happy with it and it’s also managed to build a few partnerships between the church and the CWA, so hopefully that will be an ongoing partnership,” Ms Akinyemi said.
