The church will be holding an afternoon tea on Saturday from 1.30pm, with funds to go to the CWA’s drought appeal.
“Every year we’ve been doing the [Cancer Council’s] Girl’s Night In for the research but this year we just decided that the more pressing community need was the drought relief,” TurningPoint’s Bec Akinyemi said.
“We knew the CWA had already done the program doing the non-perishable food so we just decided that partnering with someone who was already in the process of a program made more sense than starting our own program.”
Ms Akinyemi said the funds will be used to purchase fuel cards and non-perishable household items to be distributed to local farmers in need.
The afternoon tea will be held at TurningPoint Church at 37 South Street.
“Everyone’s welcome and the playground’s there for the kids,” Ms Akinyemi said.
“It’s a very relaxed kind of afternoon; it’s just about raising money for the farmers.”
Cost of entry is $10 per head, with a raffle and lucky door prizes up for grabs.
Gunnedah CWA is still receiving a steady stream of donated items and funds, with food, water, toiletries and toys coming from Tasmania, Sydney and many other towns. Farming families in need are asked to contact Coralie Howe on 0427 427 911.
