“The Gunnedah Polo Club decided the funds of the drought function would go to children in need in the drought,” club vice-president Edward Hoddle said.
“Children are silent witnesses in the drought [and] families are doing it very tough.
“Hopefully, the funds can help improve the experience of the students at the school and help with excursions, clothes or food.”
The annual polo carnival was originally scheduled for August 25-26 but was postponed because of the rain forecast.
Eight teams from across the state will compete in early rounds on Saturday from 9am at the Gunnedah polo grounds. Sunday will see the best go head-to-head in a cup final from 2pm.
“We are expecting strong crowds and we encourage all of the community to come and have a nice day out,” Mr Hoddle said.
“It’s a social occasion during tough times – a place people can gather and forget about the drought for a moment and have a day out watching the polo.”
