The most recent exhibition saw about 70 people gather in the restored wool shed in Merton Street to see the works of artists Lorraine Maddigan, Tammey McAllan, Helen Stanley, Rachael Passfield, Jade Punch, Kristie Farquhar, Tamar Greatrix, Julie Gosper, photographer David Chapple, and the Boggabri Men’s Shed.
Art Shed co-founder and Boggabri artist Tammey McAllan said the shed was packed despite the chilly night, with exhibition-goers taking advantage of happy hour at the Commercial Hotel and late opening hours at Hassab’s Fashions.
The new exhibition featured woodwork, mixed media, photography, water colours and prints.
“I think people liked the different types of artwork we had. And as well as the art being beautiful, the shed was beautiful,” Ms McAllan said.
“Hanging was interesting, trying to make it all work but I think it was really successful.”
The artist said the feedback was “positive all round”.
“We had a lot of new people who hadn’t actually been to the shed before,” Ms McAllan said.
“For a small community, I think it’s really great that people make the effort to come out… We all feel privileged that they travel all the way out.”
Artist Rachael Passfield exhibited for the first time, with a small bus load making the journey to Boggabri to support her.
“She was really pleased with the outcome,” Ms McAllan said.
“She had a few sales as well, which was exciting for her.”
Ms McAllan said she has already been contacted by three new artists who would like to be part of the next exhibition in spring.
“Word’s definitely getting out there [about the Art Shed],” she said.
In the interim period, Ms McAllan is hoping to organise a day exhibition to showcase art from students in the area, with plans to contact the schools in Boggabri and other towns including Gunnedah and Narrabri.
