Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club members Caleb Cameron and Tim Thorning competed at the District Junior Lawn Bowls Championships with both bowlers picking up a title each.
In the singles competition, the final was fought out by the two Gunnedah juniors.
In the end, Tim edged clear of Caleb to take home a 25-21 victory.
“It was pretty close all the way,” Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club’s Scott Thorning said.
“Timmy just knuckled down a little bit and got the better of Caleb on the day.”
Caleb didn’t go home empty handed, though, as the young gun partnered Zac Doring to win the pairs crown. Scott said the Gunnedah kids will now go onto the next level.
“They’ll go to zone in the middle of May at Manilla,” Scott said.
“They play everyone from all over – Inverell, Lightning Ridge, Armidale – all those places.”
Scott said the duo were keen to bowl as much as possible and were constantly improving.
“They’re entering just about everything,” Scott said.
“If they’re not playing every week, it’s every second week.
“Tim’s starting to listen and he’s really improving.
“Young Caleb’s going well, too. In another couple years he’ll be up in the seniors.”
The club is always on the lookout for young players. Anyone interested in trying lawn bowls can contact Scott Thorning on 0429537498.
