Snappers will need to get their photography entries in fast, with entries closing on Tuesday at 11am. Art entries close on April 6.
Art convenor Maree Kelly said there is good prize money available this year.
“We’ve revamped it over the last few years and it’s becoming incredibly popular,” she said.
“We get more than 200 entries a year.
“A lot of people come into the pavilion and have a look at the photo and the art.”
The convenor said the novice section was a good opportunity for people who hadn’t entered a competition before or won something.
“What’s really heartening is to see the novice section,” she said.
"I love to see the people who win that.”
This year’s judge will be artist Francis Feasey from Blue Mountains. Ms Feasey exhibited works with Mrs Kelly and Emily Simson in Gunnedah in December last year.
Mrs Kelly said the art competition was a “good experience” for artists.
“It’s good to have exposure and have the experience of going through the exhibition process and letting people see how incredible you are and give you feedback,” she said.
The photography competition has grown rapidly over the last few years and is being managed by Kellee Clarke this year.
“With the massive resurgence in photography, we are hoping for a wide range of entries in all categories,” Mrs Clarke said.
“The program has changed slightly from previous years to allow for the addition of our new section – the novice section; the aim being to encourage a greater interest in for all levels of experience in photography.
“This section is open to all people who have never won a first place in a photography competition.”
This year’s themed section will be macro, with a professional photographer from Tamworth to judge all competition entries. More than $900 in prize money and trophies is up for grabs.
The official opening night for the art and photography competitions is on April 13 at 6pm.
“Gunnedah has some very talented photographers in both amateur and advanced areas,” Mrs Clarke said.
“Come and appreciate the photographic endeavours of our fantastic community and surrounding areas. There will be something for all to appreciate and enjoy.”
