Since August 2017, 115 cats and dogs have been desexed at Pet Vet, Gunnedah Saleyards Veterinary Clinic and Gunnedah Veterinary Hospital.
The RSPCA has sold 168 vouchers to pet owners, which subsidised the cost of de-sexing, micro-chipping and vaccination. The majority of pets de-sexed were female dogs.
The branch had a goal of targeting 150 animals over a three-month period.
“To actually go over 150, I was so wrapped,” RSPCA member Maddison Lawback said.
“It’s been really exciting and positive experience being able to help so many people and their pets and just educate people with responsible pet ownership has been really exciting and I’m really grateful to the vet clinics for participating.
“A lot of people thought their pets were vaccinated but they were overdue for a booster so they were able to talk to the vets about that and find out their pets need yearly boosters.
“It’s just been good for people to appreciate that we are here for our community. That’s our purpose - we’re here for animals.”
Ms Lawback said a few owners were still yet to utilise their vouchers and she encouraged them to book in.
“We’re hoping to have the final animals desexed by the end of March, so if you have a voucher please contact your vet clinic,” she said.
The RSPCA will be able to continue caring for Gunnedah’s animals with the help of Linda and Carol Owers who donated more than $9000 raised through their High Street Christmas display. The financial boost came at just the right time, with more than 60 cats and kittens in care in late 2017.
“We really appreciate all the hard work that the Owers sisters and friends did,” Ms Lawback said.
“It was months of hard work and to donate the money to us in a time of need when we had so many animals and bills was just fantastic.
"We’re really happy they raised awareness of what our branch does.”
Looking to adopt? Meet Shadow
Hi, my name is Shadow,
I am a four-month-old female staghound cross.
I am a very friendly and happy-go lucky girl! I love playing with other dogs and running around. I love pats and attention. I am a good girl who loves to go for walkies! I walk pretty good on the lead. I am very eager to please which will make my training easy. I will need a big yard to run around in and am looking for a family who will spend good quality time with me.
Being a puppy, I still need to learn to my manners. I have just learnt to sit for my dinner and am still learning I don't need to jump to show how much I love you. I will make a very loyal family dog.
My adoption fee is $350, which includes desexing, microchip, up to date vaccinations, worm/flea treatment and a vet health check.
