Gunnedah’s Des O’Callaghan has returned from the 2017 long ride with a collection of memories and funds for a good cause.
Mr O’Callaghan arrived in Gunnedah on Tuesday morning after riding his bike around Tasmania raising funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia.
The local’s ride saw him cover more than 4000km and raise more than $3000 for the fight against prostate cancer.
Mr O’Callaghan said the experience of the long ride was unforgettable.
“It has been brilliant,” he said.
“You got to ride with a lot of great people and every evening you got to speak with someone different.”
The Gunnedah man said that he built strong bonds with other riders throughout the ride.
“It’s the highest level of camaraderie I have ever experienced in my life,” he said.
“We were blessed with good weather throughout the ride and there were no accidents and only one breakdown for the whole trip, which is great.”
Mr O’Callaghan praised the generosity of the people of Gunnedah.
“There are so many people to thank but I will keep it simple and thank the entire community for their support,” he said.
