The Gunnedah Lions club have come on board with a $1000 donation.
Raising money for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Mr O’Callaghan hopes that by taking part in the charity ride around Tasmania he can also help raise awareness.
“This disease doesn’t discriminate,” Mr O’Callaghan said.
“It could get you at any time, I’ve luckily dodged the bullet so far but I know so many who haven’t been so lucky.”
The donation from the Lions Club brings Mr O’Callaghan’s current total to over $3000.
“People have been donating from everywhere, it’s great” he said.
“It truly is a community effort, not just a solo effort from me, a real community effort.”
Gunnedah Lions Club member Nev Adams said the club was proud to support Mr O’Callaghan and The Long Ride.
“It is certainly a worthy cause,” Mr Adams said.
“We want to support Des and The Long Ride to hopefully help rid the world of this disease in the future.
“The Gunnedah Lions Club is always happy to help out local people who are raising money to help local people.”
Mr O’Callaghan’s Long Ride journey kicks off on October 9 as he and fellow Gunnedah riders Tim Brett and Ken Adams head for the Victorian border.
