He is one of 12 Gunnedah riders but is the only one going all the way to Tasmania and back.
The local will leave Gunnedah on October 9 and will travel down to Tasmania where he will join 400 motorcyclists in a charity ride to raise awareness of prostate cancer and men’s health.
He will be accompanied to the Victoria border by Gunnedah riders Tim Brett and Ken Adams, then board the Spirit of Tasmania. The ride will start on October 13, with the routes taking in major centres over seven days.
Mr O'Callaghan is being sponsored by Gunnedah Shire Council, Gordon Turner Motorcycles and Honda NSW. Gordon Turner’s will service the rider’s motorcycle before and after the event.
The local has almost raised his $1000 contribution for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Prostate cancer was the most common cancer diagnosed in Australia in 2013, and the second greatest cause of Australian cancer deaths in 2014, according to Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. In 2017, it is estimated that the risk of a man being diagnosed with prostate cancer by his 85th birthday will be one in seven.
