Stud principals Brett and Kim Guest, “Springfield”, Wallangra, said the Clunie Range Angus stud started 31 years ago and has built up over the years and now offers 140 bulls at the annual on-farm sale.
“We have a very strong belief in what we do here, and with our strong commercial focus, we feel it essential to run the cow herd under commercial conditions,” Mr Guest said. “Our cow herd is the strength of our operation.
“We feel over multiple generations of selection pressure, we have a cow herd that is not pampered, rather they have had to perform under pressure.
“Combining this pressure with generations of preg testing, semen testing and semen morphology testing we know our herd is highly fertile.”
He said Clunie Range cattle were known to handle tough conditions while maintaining quality.
“Generations of focus on retained ownership and feedlot and carcase feedback has given us a deep understanding of what our cattle can do,” Mr Guest said. “We know our cattle dress and yield well because of the extra emphasis placed on depth of body and carcase merit.”
A few recent highlights include several consignments where females had marble scores as high as seven and with excellent averages.
“For BreedPlan in April numerous heifers scanned above 8 per cent for IMF and Clunie Range Legend L348 scanned 8.2 per cent,” he said. The Clunie Range Angus bull sale will be held on Friday, August 4, at 12.30pm.
