The meeting will be held at The Civic, on Monday, April 7, at 5pm for a 5.15pm start. Tea and coffee will be available on arrival.
The first community consultation meeting in November last year delivered a resounding “leave it where it is” response from the crowd, however, council has since hired a consultant to investigate other options for the possible relocation of the centre after reviewing the tourism budget.
Gunnedah Mayor Owen Hasler said the proposed diversion of the highway when the new overpass is built is one factor driving the review.
He said statistics revealed that 80 per cent of visitors to the shire were Grey Nomads, with market figures showing 29.5 per cent of these came from the Kamilaroi Highway.
Among the proposed locations are the Town Hall and the Oxley Highway.
People attending the meeting, however, were adamant that the VIC is in the perfect location with plenty of parking for big rigs.
They said all that needs to be improved is signage directing visitors to the site.
A petition, with thousands of signatures, calling on council to leave the VIC where it is, will be presented at the meeting.
