A DRIVER is facing criminal charges after he allegedly hit a cyclist and threw him from his bike at a Tamworth intersection before fleeing the scene in a Hyundai Getz.

The 65-year-old bike rider was taken to hospital by ambulance with head and arm injuries after he was hit by a car and landed on the road at the Calala Lane and Burgess Lane intersection, just before 7am on Tuesday.
The driver of the red Hyundai Getz allegedly drove away from the crash site before police and paramedics arrived to treat the hurt cyclist.

Oxley police officers launched an investigation into the circumstances of the alleged hit-and-run and homed in on a 45-year-old man at a Gunnedah home later that day.
The accused was arrested at the McCalls Street address and taken to Gunnedah Police Station, where he was charged with negligent driving, and causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a car.
He was slapped with strict bail conditions and will front Gunnedah Local Court in February next year.
The injured bike rider was reportedly in a stable condition when he was taken to hospital on Tuesday morning.
