COVID-19 update Friday: 13 cases in Inverell, two in Tamworth and seven in Moree with new sewage detection in Coonabarabran

Inverell added 13 new coronavirus cases to the tally on Friday, two of which reside in Tingha.

It marks a spike in cases for the town, which only recorded a handful of cases in total across the past several days.

The Moree Plains Shire clocked seven new infections, including one in the remote community of Boggabilla.

Tamworth added just two new COVID-19 cases in the latest update, one of them is in Moonbi on the outskirts of town.

Coonabarabran has been added to the list of towns which have returned positive sewage detections for the virus, despite no known cases residing in the area.

Testing has remained steady in Tamworth in the past week, according to the latest data from Hunter New England Health (HNEH).

More than 1000 swabs were taken on Monday and Tuesday and close to 500 were done on Wednesday at testing sites across the city.

Residents right across the region have been urged to continue getting tested if symptoms appear, and get vaccinated if they have not done so yet.

Vaccines can be booked online or given at walk-in hubs and anyone who had their second dose more than six months ago is eligible for a booster shot.

There were 40 new infections confirmed across the entire HNEH district to 8pm Thursday.

About 35 of those have been linked to known clusters and roughly half were in isolation during their infectious period.

There were 196 new cases recorded in NSW in that time and sadly a further three deaths.
