In a Connolly Cup match where just six boundaries were hit all day, Gunnedah made 7-171 from their 50 overs before Narrabri finished on 3-57 as rain washed the match out.
Gunnedah captain Blake Small had highlighted Swain as a key player this season and the experienced player didn't disappoint.

Swain scored 72 runs from 135 balls which included a vital 59-run partnership with Small (22) after Gunnedah had slumped to 3-19.
"He had a great day out," Small said of Swain.
"He started off slow and then toward the end - the last 10 overs - he took control there."
The performance meant Gunnedah put on a much better score than the side had first anticipated.
"The pitch was a bit wet when we got there... we were sort of looking for a score of 120 but it ended up drying out as the day went on and we were very happy with the 170," Small said.
Nathan Trindall was Narrabri's best with the ball in taking 3-30 including the wicket of Swain.
The match was very much in the balance with Ash White (1-13), Braithen Winsor (1-22) and Small (1-15) all taking wickets for Gunnedah.
However, Cooper Brayshaw (30*) looked to be the danger man for Narrabri.
Brayshaw and captain Luke Meppem (5*) had put on 28 runs together when the rain came.
The next Connolly Cup matches are set to be played on November 21.
