Hugh Evans might have set the pace but it was Tim Corben who came through for the win in Sunday's second heat of the Lake Keepit Sailing Club's club championship series.

A fleet of nine boats battled through what Corben described as "some very strong gusts of wind and some very light patches over the triangular course on a 100% capacity Lake Keepit".
"It was a very good test of concentration and endurance," he reported.

Fresh from winning the vice-commodore's plate last week, sailing his laser dinghy, Evans continued his excellent form by getting to the finishing gun first.
But on corrected time Corben (Barraba) in his laser radial clinched the win from the Tamworth sailor by three seconds. Doug Whiteman and Raelene McLenaghan (Tamworth) were third sailing a Botterill trailer-yacht.
As Corben explained corrected time is used so sailboats of differing designs can race each other, and is achieved by applying a formula of actual time x 100, divided by the yardstick numeral. For example, the yardstick for his boat is 118.5 and Evans' 114.
Corben was admittedly surprised by his victory with Evans appearing "to be a long way ahead".
The veteran sailor, who is in his 70s, said he was just happy to get around the course and not capsize.
"I did tip over while waiting for the start and I will confirm that the lake water is still very chilly," he
He reported that it was a welcome sight to have two of the club's convalescing members, Dave Aylwin and John Sumner, come along and watch the race.
"We hope to see them out on the water again in the near future," he said
This Sunday is heat 1 of the Spring Cup.
Under COVID regulations only double vaccinated members are able to sail at the moment. Those under 16 and unvaccinated can sail with their family members or solo.
