On the back of edging out the Tamworth Swans, the Poochettes fought off a gallant Tamworth Kangaroos outfit 4.4 (28) to 1.0 (6) at Wolseley Oval.
The victory puts the Dogs two wins ahead of the Inverell Saints with two rounds to go.
Gunnedah also have an impressive for and against percentage of 389.67 per cent while Inverell's sits at 221.33 per cent which makes it incredibly unlikely the Poochettes will surrender the top spot before the end of the regular season.
