TWO YOUNG boys have been "spoken to" by police after a reported child approach in Gunnedah last weekend was confirmed to be a false report.

Police issued a call for information after two boys, aged seven and 10, told police they were approached by an unknown man at a Gunnedah intersection last Sunday.
Oxley police investigated the report and revealed the incident did not occur, and officers have spoken to the boys.

Police said the pair told them they were riding their scooters when a man approached them about 3pm on Sunday at the intersection of Scobie and Wentworth streets in Gunnedah.
Police said the boys claimed the man asked the older boy to get in the car with him, and then grabbed him on the arm when the boy refused.
Officers investigating the reported incident deemed it to be a false report and confirmed the child approach "did not occur".
