Council acknowledge the inconvenience but have said it is necessary for the long-term outlook for the reserve.
"During the drought the loss of plants, green space and amenity for the community was hard felt and volunteers at Pensioners Reserve and council staff were hard pressed keeping up with manual watering," stated a council spokesperson.

"Irrigation will help with water conservation, drought-proof the area and retain investment in vegetation."
The upgrades will be carried out by Aquawest Gunnedah.
