Project coordinator Dan Birkett said the mural, which will be installed in the alleyway between Conadilly and Little Conadilly streets, should be finished by the end of the week, and installed before Christmas.
Mr Birkett explained to the NVI what each of the features of the mural represented, from different community groups, to the seasons, and Aboriginal culture.
"We can't cover everybody because it just starts to fill up," he said.
"We've stayed a little bit away from the sporting activities which of course is very big, and it's not that we're not recognising that, but the grant was put forward for this purpose."

There are many references to Gunnedah's art and cultural side in the work, like Indigenous mythology, the Blackjack Camera Club, the town's artists, the town hall, Dorothea Mackellar, and the local woodturners, just to name a few.
The landscape of the shire is also included, such as water and fish from Lake Keepit, the Namoi and Mooki rivers, and the 'green plains' of farmland.
Mr Birkett said the painting of the project had been a collaborative effort between community members and Arts Gunnedah artists.
The project is covered by more than $20,000 from the Drought Communities Program.
