A local housing strategy for the shire will soon be under way now that a vacant house has been sold.
Funds from the sale of 61 Lincoln Street will be placed in a restricted asset and used to help progress the strategy. It was listed on Domain's website as having sold on September 29.
Gunnedah's councillors voted at the June ordinary council meeting to sell the vacant home, and a Gunnedah Shire Council spokesperson said a consultant's brief was now being finalised.
This brief will be used in the "procurement process to find a suitable consultant to develop the strategy".
"There are many factors that will need to be taken into consideration including an analysis of how the shire's population is changing, the current housing market, future housing needs, as well as the identification of strategies for addressing issues of housing affordability," the spokesperson said.
"Consultation with key stakeholders will be required and it is anticipated the progression of the strategy will take some months."
