With restrictions easing what better time to give ourselves permission to take a break and enjoy time with family and friends and take a road trip
There are so many fantastic locations across the Tamworth electorate and beyond. Whether you plan on hitting the road for a short break, taking a leisurely day trip or staying home this October long weekend, embrace the local shops, tourist destinations and help support our region's economy.
Why not visit some of our very own hidden gems; the exciting new playground in Gunnedah, the historic gold mining town of Nundle, check out the artwork on the silos of Barraba, take an easy stroll along the Manilla bridge to bridge walk, call into the National Railway Museum in Werris Creek, jump on your bike and head to the Mountain bike track in Tamworth, or the magnificent Aspley falls at Walcha. There is so much to see and do and it's easy to go exploring locally.
I reckon we will see more visitors this weekend as they too will be hitting the road, and we welcome them all. I urge everyone to slow down, drive safely on the roads and our waterways this October long weekend while we take advantage of the warmer weather and eased COVID-19 restrictions.
Double demerits will be in place from Friday 2 October and our local Police will be out in force for the long weekend. I want to see everyone arrive safely at their destinations this long weekend.
Don't forget Daylight Saving commences on Sunday, 4 October at 2am. Putting your clocks forward by one hour on Saturday night before we go to bed means we will have longer evenings and extra light to get outside and embrace the great outdoors.
With so many families heading off this weekend, plan your trip, take lots of breaks, stay safe and have fun.
