Gunnedah police Inspector Michael Wurth also reminded locals to ensure their cars were locked, after a spate of incidents recently.
He also said to ensure valuables weren't left in vehicles or were at least placed out of sight, and to "never leave keys to vehicles secreted inside or outside the vehicle".
"This only makes it easier for the less honest members of the community to steal your vehicle which may result in its use in other crimes and possibly an otherwise avoidable police pursuit," Inspector Wurth said.
Police continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to contact Gunnedah Police on 6742 9099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
