Gunnedah RFS crews attended the fire at a property on the highway towards Boggabri on Thursday at about 1pm, where it had spread from a pile burn.
Winds in town hit about 30km/h at this time, helping in the spread.

The crews quickly stopped the blaze, but NSW RFS district manager inspector Myles O'Reilly urged locals to remember that the bushfire danger period had now started.
He said that if anyone wished to burn-off, they needed a permit.
"If they don't have a permit and a fire does escape or goes into someone else's property, heavy penalties apply," he told the NVI.
"It may not seem like it, but we're probably not that far from starting to get an increase in the weather from a heat perspective."
Landholders wishing to burn-off can contact the Liverpool Range RFS on 6746 5800 for information about fire permits.
