The two heats of the Million Dollar Chase at Gunnedah on Friday night will bring together "very classy" fields, says Gunnedah Greyhounds president Geoff Rose.

However, Rose said the formidable 527-metre rack record, set by Feral Franky in a heat of the annual event last year, was unlikely to be bettered.

He singled out Riverina-based Canya Star - who will contest the $2630 first heat - as a dog to watch.
He said the Peter Sims- trained three-year-old, who has 16 wins from 48 starts, was "blistering" in winning at Wentworth Park last week - his winning time 29.83 seconds (520m).
And if he repeats that run, he's gotta be one hell of a dog to beat.

It will be a nine-race TAB meeting. Rose said there were also dogs coming from Sydney, the Central Coast and Newcastle, among other destinations.
He said that was proof the track was safe.
"They see the track as a very safe track," he said. "They wouldn't be travelling all that way if they think their dog's gonna be injured."
He responded to a press release this week from the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds, which claimed 44 greyhounds had been injured at Gunnedah this year.
The Wentworth Park final of the Million Dollar Chase on October 16 is worth $1 million - making it the world's richest greyhound race.
