Keepit Dam wall upgrade 95 per cent complete

Public access to the wall is still cut-off for safety reasons but Water NSW said there was a "viewing and turning area" at the approach to the wall.

The upgrade is to make the dam compliant with NSW Dams Safety Committee standards for extreme weather events and seismic activity and the completion date is scheduled for late this year.

"COVID 19 restrictions have been adhered to during our works, and with these protocols in place, works have been able to continue to plan," Water NSW said in a recent update.

Crews are installing of post-tensioned cables on the concrete section of the dam wall and 90 per cent of the additional strengthening works on the spillway section of the dam (outside the original scope) are complete.

So far, completed tasks include all vertical drilling on the abutments and the spillway section; fabrication of the pier anchors; and post-tensioning and installation of 47 anchors through the existing concrete into the foundation of the dam crest and spillway.

Installation of 20 spillway pier anchors is 95 per cent complete and demobilisation of equipment has started where possible and is ongoing.

Next on the list is stressing and capping of anchors in the spillway and completion of the dam strengthening works on the spillway section of the dam.

By the end of June 2020, the total amount of money spent on local contractors and services is nearly $4 million. This includes engineering services (mechanical/ electrical), metal work, concrete supplies, light vehicle maintenance, waste management, crane hire, pumps and associated equipment, lifting and mechanical equipment, accommodation, and labour hire.

The WaterNSW project is funded by the NSW Government.
